Ryan & Bree’s Hanging Rock Engagement Session

I met Bree at a wedding expo in Winston Salem early this year. She was actually my first wedding booking for the year. She told me that the ceremony would be in June up in the mountains of Purlear, NC. I’m not much of an outdoors person myself, but I’m all for a wedding on a mountain!

We decided to do her engagement session up at Hanging Rock, so we could match the mountain aesthetic of the wedding. I loved the idea, and wanted to opportunity to see what all the hype was with this popular engagement spot, because I had never been (like I said, not much of an outdoors person).

So, fast forward to the day of the shoot. We get up to Hanging Rock excited and ready to go. We went to the waterfall first and planned on doing the actual Hanging Rock trail last to end the day. The waterfall was incredible! I had so much fun getting these photos and was looking forward to seeing what the next climb had in store for us.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to the hike up the mountain. Bree accidentally forgot to bring her extra outfit and was just devastated. I felt so bad because they had driven 2 hrs to do the shoot. Planning a wedding can be extremely stressful. Things don’t always work out the way you plan them, and that’s ok. I told them I was totally fine with rescheduling the second part of the shoot. We could just come back on another day.

To be honest, it really helped me out, because, me and my genius self had decided that it was a good idea to schedule another shoot on the rock climbing side of Hanging Rock earlier that morning. With a rock climber. I had already hiked about 7 miles before we even did the waterfall. My legs felt like jello. Believe me, I was more than happy to postpone our trek up this famed mountain!

All was well in the end though. We rescheduled and came back (when I could feel my legs again Lol) and had an absolutely amazing shoot.

Hanging Rock lived up to the hype. I’ll definitely have to come back again!
